1989 - 1995
Meridian Navigation Ltd (MNL) was incorporated as a family owned company in 1989. MNL acted as a major shipping and trading house in Sri Lanka establishing its name in the Shipping Agency business in Sri Lanka. During this time MNL acted as agents for many major shipping lines.
Since 1995
MNL entered into a Joint Venture partnership with Wilh Wilhelmsen ASA., of Oslo Norway in 1995 establishing Barwil Meridian Navigation Ltd (BMNL). WILH. WILHELMSEN ASA Oslo, Norway is a company established in 1861 having 348 offices in 116 countries covering 2250 ports globally and are in the Maritime industry for over 150 years. During this period, MNL transferred all shipping activities including operations, business and employees to the joint venture entity BMNL. MNL was converted to a Private Limited Company and focussed only on real estate investment and development. BMNL changed its registered name to Wilhelmsen Meridian Navigation Ltd in 2009 in line with regional rebranding. In April 2019, WMNL transformed into a diversified local company to enhance and expand to various other sectors in the maritime and trading industry.
TODAY
Since 2022, WMNL changed its registered name to Meridian Maritime Services Ltd (MMS) and continues to provide seamless maritime and port agency services around the clock whilst continuing to expand its service range and portfolio.
